October Doings

This weekend we headed to the pumpkin patch for some annual photos with one of P's first friends, Thomas. It's so sweet watching these two together since they are only 2 weeks apart. While T was walking around the patch like a champ P still is not quite there yet.

We are gearing up for a road trip this month and I am terrified. We are headed south to visit my sister in law and my sister who live 8 and 6 hours away. First leg of the trip - 8 hours - and I have no idea how P is going to handle it.

I'm prepared. Sunshade, iPad headrest, downloads of Bubble Guppies and new toys. What other tips and tricks do I need to know? Do we leave while it's still dark? Ahh I just want the dang drive to be over with already!

Tell me it won't be as miserable as I am envisioning!

  1. Oh my gosh how cute!!! I've done quite a few 8-11 hour road trips with R.... it is not easy having to pull over and nurse in the car but I suspect its a little easier at P's age in terms of the feeding! We find its much easier to leave after R's 3PM feeding, that way we only stop once to feed and he sleeps most of the ride after that! It sucks to get in so late but that seems to work for us. New toys and the ipad will help!

  3. We did a 24 car ride when my son was 3 months old and it was terrible b/c we weren't prepared at all (we had to move cross county and broke it up over 3 days). Now my son is 13 months and I think if we were doing an 8 hour car ride again, I would try and do part of it when he was asleep. So either wake up super early so he was still asleep part of the time, or leave later so he would sleep when it gets dark. For shorter car rides (3-4 hours), we found that stickers are awesome way for entertaining him. I have to make sure he doesn't eat them, but they will keep him entertained for at least 30 minutes. Also, maybe find a playground or some place to stop for awhile so that they can crawl/run around and get out some of that energy/eat. Good luck!

  4. new snacks! we do this when we fly but if you grab a few new snacks that shes never had and stash them in multiple snack keepers to hand back to her she'll be entertained! We did a new cereal, a new flavor of goldfish etc. Also, get lots and lots of everything - tons of extra pacis, cups and snack keepers. She will manage to toss them all down into the crack between the door and her car seat, just inches out of your reach. Having extras loaded in your bag at your feet will keep you from going crazy. xo

  6. What an adorable picture! That will be fun to look back on every year as they grow! Good luck with the car ride! I have a hard time keeping Remington happy in the car for 2 hours at a time so I can't imagine anything longer than that. Please share what you find works best! :)
